Our Solutions for Heavy-Duty Applications

Power the future of freight transportation with hydrogen fuel cells: limitless, zero-emission mobility.

At Symbio, we industrialize compact and high-performing fuel cell systems for trucks, from mid-range through to heavy-duty vehicles, including EMS (European Modular System for road freight transport) vehicles, allowing flexible and profitable operations.

Partner in your hydrogen transition: our integrated and industrializable solutions.

We support manufacturers, integrators, and fleet managers at every stage of their transition to hydrogen mobility—from defining their needs, to designing the optimal system, and then through integration, training, and operation. We have end-to-end control over the value chain of our fuel cell components: the MEA (Membrane Electrode Assembly) and the BPP (Bipolar Plate). This mastery, combined with our expertise in vehicle architectures, enables us to support you at every step—from design and hybrid architecture optimization, to integration, demonstrator vehicles ("proof of concept"), and industrialization.

Our value proposition for hydrogen-powered trucks.

  • POWER AND EFFICIENCY: with a total system efficiency of 53% for a long-haul truck travelling at 90 km/h on the highway, our systems are among the most hydrogen-efficient on the market.
  • COMPACTNESS: our StackPack™ 150 and StackPack™ 300 can be integrated into existing vehicle engine bay featuring similar intrefaces as for an IC engine. The low height of the stacks and the flexibility of the system architecture also enable installation in the vehicle wheelbase, in place of fuel tanks.
  • COOLING: thanks to controlled heat release and a high operating temperature (95°C), cooling requirements are 15% lower than the market average.
  • MONITORING: optimized operation and predictive maintenance thanks to direct access to fuel cell data.
  • DEPENDABILITY: systems tested using our more than 100 test benches and state-of-the-art equipment, industrialized in our gigafactory—the largest integrated site dedicated to hydrogen fuel cell production in Europe—and used by our customers (on-road, off-road, and stationary applications).

Our fuel cell systems combine the advantages of electric powertrain with those of diesel or NGV.

  • Zero CO2 and NOx emissions at use.
  • Range up to 1,000 km.
  • Operational flexibility and optimized uptime with fast refuelling (max. 15 minutes).
  • Performance and range maintained regardless of the weather conditions ( from -30°C to 50°C).
  • No impact on payload thanks to higher on-board energy density.
